Dr. Ryan Albern

Dr. Kim

Dr. Ryan Albern earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University New Brunswick in Applied Kinesiology. Following his undergraduate education, he then attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Upon graduating from Palmer College, Dr. Albern had the opportunity to train with Dr. Sweat at the Sweat Institute for Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic before practicing Atlas Orthogonal in the state of Washington. After moving back to his home state of New Jersey, Dr. Albern was able to continue learning and working together with his mentor throughout school, Dr. Angelo Colavita.

Dr. Albern’s interest in chiropractic care, specifically the Atlas Orthogonal technique, came from personal experience. Following his first Atlas Orthogonal adjustment by Dr. Colavita, his migraines completely went away and he has not experienced them since. This experience was so life changing for Dr. Albern that he immediately switched his major towards something that would better prepare him for chiropractic college. While attending Palmer college, Dr. Albern knew he wanted to focus on practicing the Atlas Orthogonal technique so that he could help his patients the same way it helped him.

Let Us Treat You, Without Pain

We practice a specialized type of chiropractic treatment that focuses on the Atlas, a little-known bone at the top of the vertebrae, where the spine/neck/head meet. We use a patented state-of-the-art instrument, called an Atlas Orthogonal, to provide relief from head and neck pain without making any adjustments to your body

Our Promise To You

We Provide Painless Relief. A gentle effective approach to relieve your head and neck pain and improve your quality of life. Our state-of-the-art patented instrument provides a painless way to treat your symptoms.

Scientifically Proven Results. We provide research-driven treatment with proven results. We pay attention to detail and use precise, specific, and scientific methods to address head and neck pain.

This Is Not Your Typical Treatment. We don’t make any manipulations to your body - there’s no twisting, cracking, or popping. During treatments you’ll always be in a neutral position and our typical treatment protocol takes between 6-8 weeks to see a measurable (50- 100%) improvement in symptoms.

You Won’t Need Us Forever. Typical treatment protocol takes between 6- 8 weeks to see results. After that, we can check in from time to time until eventually you’re feeling so good that you won’t need us…unless you want to chat.

What Kind of Instrument is Used During Treatment?

The Atlas Orthogonal instrument is a patented, state-of-the-art device that was designed to help realign the Atlas bone. It is gentle, effective, precise, and painless–slowly restoring the alignment of the Atlas without painful manipulations or neck cracking. While it may be hard to believe that such a non-invasive treatment can be so powerful, the success stories of our patients really speak for themselves.

The instrument, developed by Dr. Roy Sweat, uses the principles of percussion force. As the patient lays on one side, the doctor places the tip of the instrument below the patient’s earlobe, barely touching the skin. The tip does not move when the adjustment is delivered. There is a weight released in the head of the instrument, which sends an energy wave through the tip. This energy wave effectively places the atlas in a more orthogonal position, with the patient feeling absolutely no discomfort.

Who Can Benefit From AO Treatments?

Upon misalignment of the Atlas, the nerves at the base of the skull become choked. The human body is balanced when the head is positioned between the center of the feet, so when the atlas is out of alignment, it causes the head to tilt. When the head tilts, the spine shifts under the head to support it, which then causes misalignment in the other areas of the spine. This could result in pain and tenderness. It could also play a role in a multitude of symptoms, including:

  • All types of headaches
  • Migraines
  • Sinus pain
  • Neck/shoulder pain
  • Numbness and pain in the arms/hands
  • Facial/TMJ pain
  • Concussions
  • Brain fog
  • Dizziness/vertigo
  • Herniated discs

Our goal is to align this Atlas to allow the body to restore itself to optimum health. Prior to treating new patients, we require a free consultation to review your medical history, provide a brief examination, and take precise X-rays that allow us to see the alignment of your Atlas. If it is determined that AO chiropractic treatments would benefit your symptoms, we put a treatment plan together to begin the healing process

How Well Established Is The Atlas Orthogonal Method

A method established by Dr. Roy Sweat in the 1960’s, the Atlas Orthogonal chiropractic technique is based on the simple premise that if the Atlas bone at the top of your neck is out of alignment, the rest of your body will feel that pain in various ways. This shift is called Atlas subluxation, and it typically results in inflammation around a nerve, which causes disruption to the typical function of the nervous system, creating sensations of pain in various places throughout the body.

Dr. Sweat personally trained Dr. Colavita. He continued his learning, and over the years, collaborated on a daily basis with Dr. Sweat on all aspects of the Atlas Orthogonal Technique. Dr. Sweat hand picked and groomed Dr. Colavita to lead the Atlas Orthogonal group as one of the three head instructors. For the past 20 years he has been lecturing, teaching, and conducting groundbreaking research to advance the program and help students, doctors and patients from around the world. Dr. Colavita is honored to be on the faculty of three chiropractic colleges and lecture to doctors throughout the country.
